Eagles Record Back-to-Back Shutouts with 8-0 Win over Johnson State

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - The Eagles added on another North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory to their record after shutting out Johnson State, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at John P. Boucher Field. With this win, Husson women's soccer improved their record to 4-4-0 (3-1-0 NAC).

Taylor Fortin set the pace against Johnson State (4-5-0, 0-3-0 NAC), sending in a deep rocket off a pass from Maddie Page in the first 22 seconds of the game for Husson's first goal and Fortin's fourth of the season.

Eleven minutes into the first half, the Eagles put away their second goal with a short pass from Fortin to Brianna Saulter right in front of the net. Saulter tucked the ball away into the corner for her third goal of the season, putting Husson up 2-0.

The Eagles extended their lead to 4-0 to close out the first half, after two back-to-back goals within five minutes of each other by Arianna Mckinnon with assist by Myra Degre. Then Meghan Catanese hit one into the back of the net with a pass from Leah Hibbad. Both Mckinnon and Catanese recorded their first goals of the season.

The Badgers held off the Eagles for the first 15 minutes of the second half until giving up a foul in the box. Hibbad took the PK for Husson and netted her first goal of the game directly into the bottom right corner. With 20:21 remaining in the match, Hibbad recorded her second goal off of her own rebound, tipping the ball up and over Johnson State's keeper, increasing Husson's lead to 6-0. With this goal, Hibbad notched her fifth game of the season scoring two or more goals.

Degre knocked in her first goal of the season off an assist by Morgan Carver in the final six minutes of the game. The Eagles finished off the day 8-0 in the last two minutes, after Mckinnon slipped in her second goal of the game past the Badger's goalie. Riana Winslow picked up her first collegiate assist on the final goal of the game.

Four goalies saw time today between both teams. For Johnson State, Kaila Lemmer stopped 16 shots before being subbed out by Mia Blackwell who contributed three more saves. On the other end of the field, Sami Ireland started for the Eagles until Gabi Martin swapped her out with 30 minutes remaining after a quiet day in net.

Husson women's soccer will have another full weekend next week with back-to-back games on the road against Maine Maritime on Saturday, October 7th at 1 p.m. and Bowdoin on Sunday, October 8th at 1:30 p.m.
