Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine — Husson University baseball team swept New England College 6-1, 5-2 on day one of two in their final North Atlantic Conference four game series Saturday afternoon at the John W. Winkin Complex. The Eagles improve to 19-18 on the season, while the Pilgrims drop to a 6-24 overall record.
Game 1
The Pilgrims got on the board in the top of the second inning with three hits, and a Joe Paliotte RBI which gave them the early 1-0 lead. Husson then responded in the bottom of the third when JT Whitten tacked on a hit while Julien Boone and Ryan Rebar brought in runners for the Eagles to make the score 2-1 going to the top of the fourth.
Husson added on a few insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth as Christian Corneil had an inside the park home run to center field bringing in two more runs for the Eagles. Both teams were quiet until Husson got their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Boone added a two-run RBI double to give the Eagles a 6-1 win in game one.
Sam Huston went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day as he had a pair of doubles for the Eagles. Boone, Corneil, Whitten, and Rebar all had hits for Husson, while Zach Sugar had the lone error.
For New England College, Zachary Carrion and Justin Hopkins each had two hits, while Paliotte had the lone RBI. Cohen and Queen each added on a hit for the Pilgrims as well.
Robert Graff was credited with the win pitching 5.2 innings allowing eight hits, one earned run, walked two batters and struck out three. Jeam Deleon was credited with the loss while he pitched the full six innings and allowed ten hits, six earned runs, and only grabbing two strikeouts.
Game 2
Husson took no time at all as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning alone. After Curran, Rebar and Whitten all got on base, Boone slammed a RBI through the left side for his first hit of the second game. Two more runs were added until Alex Chapman struck out looking giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
New England College responded as Garrett Waldron tripled to center field and then was brought in by a Jeam Deleon sacrifice fly. Husson then added on two more runs as Rebar singled into left field for an RBI and Sugar making the sacrifice fly allowing Rebar to score.
Both teams were silent until the top of the sixth inning as NEC would get another run as Shawn Queen scored on a passed ball.
Conor Maguire was 2-for-2 in the second game with a double while Rebar, Whitten, and Huston had a double for the Eagles as well. Boone, Sugar, and Corneil each had RBI's, while Cam Archer was credited with three stolen bases.
For the Pilgrims, Waldron and Lonnie Cohen had two hits, while Queen had the lone double and Deleon the lone RBI.
Ben Walls was credited with the win as he pitched six innings, allowed five hits, two runs, and struck out six batters. Ben Holmes was credited the save as he pitched one inning and allowed one hit striking out one batter. Elijah Holland was credited with the loss as he pitched a complete game allowing nine hits, five runs, walked four batters and struck out two batters.
The two teams are back on the field tomorrow as they finish out this four game series beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the night cap to follow at the John W. Winkin Complex.
