Husson Sweeps Norwich in Double Header, 7-0 7-1

BANGOR, Maine — Husson University baseball team got back to an even 500 after their double header 7-0, 7-1 non-conference wins against Norwich on Saturday March 26 at John W. Winkin Sports Complex. 

The Eagles (5-5) are on a three game win streak heading into their next game, while the Cadets (1-13) fall to their 6th straight away game loss. 

Game 1

Husson got on the board early in the bottom of the second as Zach Sugar doubled to left center while scoring on a sacrifice fly from Sam Huston. Husson heated up in the fourth inning after Conor Maguire doubled down the right field line and Huston grabbed another hit for the Eagles. With three runs and four hits in the inning Husson pulled ahead of Norwich by four. 

To close out game one, the Eagles scored in the fifth inning and two in the seventh inning to take the first matchup from the Cadets 7-0. Andrew Curran was 2-4 in game one with a single and a double. Freshman Mike Wong was also 2-4 with one RBI. Zach Sugar, Julien Boone, and Maguire all tallied double hits for the Eagles. For the Cadets Tim Taggert and John Flanagan were both 1-3 on the day. 

Robert Graff pitched 3 innings allowing two hits, while Brandon Reilly (2-0) came away with the win after only allowing one hit in his four innings pitched. For Norwich Kaleb Smith (0-3) allowed six hits, four runs and two walks in his four innings on the mound, while Kyle Farquharson allowed six hits and three runs for the two innings he pitched.

Game 2

After steady scoring in game one, the Eagles put up five of their seven runs in the bottom of the second inning in game two. Sugar, Maguire, Boone, Ryan Rebar, and JT Whitten all had singles in the inning giving the Eagles the five hits and five runs early on. Husson then grabbed their final two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give them the 7-1 sweep. For the Cadets, the lone run came from an RBI single from Flanagan for a final three hit seventh inning. 

Cam Archer swung big for Husson as he was 1-2 with his lone hit being a triple, as well as having a sacrifice fly. Boone was 2-3 with one RBI, while Whitten, Huston, Wong, Rebar, Sugar, and Maguire had one hit each in the game. For Norwich, Haggerty was 1-3 with one run, and Flanagan had the RBI single to close out the hitting for the Cadets. 

Ben Walls pitched four innings and allowed one hit coming away with the win for the Eagles. Dan Whitney was credited the save after pitching three innings and allowing four hits. For Norwich, Jacob Ryan was credited the loss as he pitched three innings and allowed six hits and five runs. Matt Paze came in half way through to close out the last three innings allowing four hits and two runs. 

The Eagles will be back on the field when they host St. Joseph's (Maine) Thursday March 31 at 4:00 p.m. at John W Winkin Sports Complex. The Cadets will travel to Gordon for a double header on March 31 at 2:00 and 5:30 p.m.
