Eagles Shut Down By Badgers on Senior Day

Box Score

Bangor, Maine – The Husson Eagles allowed the Badgers of Johnson State to hang around late in the second half of Saturday's senior day game and dropped their first countable NAC contest of the 2016 season 101-95.

"We just got outplayed," head coach Warren Caruso stated after the tough loss. "The formula for us losing so far this year is giving up 80 points, getting out-rebounded and not moving the ball offensively. All three of those categories fell into place tonight. Johnson played really well and the better team won."

The Badgers held their largest lead in the first half after an Asim Khan layup to go up 11, 38-27. Khan finished with a team-high 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the floor and six of seven from the free-throw line.

The Eagles came storming back in the final five minutes to take a halftime lead on the back of The Eagles lone senior Trevon Butler, junior captain Tyler Norris and sophomore Mitch Worcester. The trio accounted for all 16 points in Husson's 16-4 run to end the half and head to the break with a 43-42.

In a game that saw nine ties and 15 lead changes, the Eagles could not secure key rebounds and quality offensive possessions down the stretch to help their cause.

"It's tough to run the table when you play everyone twice. Something comes up and you hope on a night where you don't play as well as you'd like, you can eke out a win and we were right there. [Johnson State] finished out the game very well."

Rahim Bunch played all 40 minutes for JSC, tallying 20 points, seven assists and seven rebounds on 50 percent shooting from the floor.

Husson's lone senior Butler, was honored in a pre-game ceremony alongside many close friends and family members.

"Tre's had a tremendous career and it's not over. He's one of those special type of players that you hate to see graduate but you come to that time with each player every four years."

Notes: The Eagles' Raheem Anderson led all scorers in the contest with 29 points and at the 10:33 mark of the second half hit a jumper to push him over 1,000 points in his career. Anderson is the 49th player in school history to accomplish this feat.

The Eagles are back in action next weekend as they play at Green Mountain Friday the 12th and at Castleton on Saturday the 13th.
