Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – The Husson University (19-6, 15-3) men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 90-85 road win over the University of Maine at Farmington (3-22, 3-15) in North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Eli Itkin scored a career-high with 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting and made seven shots from beyond the arc. Trevon Butler had a double-double for the Eagles with 20 points and 14 rebounds while Raheem Anderson was only an assist away from his own double-double with 18 points and nine assists.
UMF's two seniors, Nick Hilton and Logan Nichols closed out their careers by tallying double digits. Hilton led the team with 19 points and recorded a double-double in the process with 10 rebounds. Nichols added 11 points, three assists, and two steals. Ryan Camire and Sean Murphy added 17 points apiece.
The Beavers built a 10-point lead in the second half, but the Eagles used 11 three-pointers, six of which came from Itkin in the final minutes to come within one. Anderson sunk a jump shot shortly after to give the Eagles a 73-71 lead with 3:35 left on the clock. UMF kept the game within reach with a pair of fast break layups by Camire and Nichols and only trailed 86-82 with 34 seconds left in the game. Husson was able to make the clutch free throws down the stretch to hold off UMF's comeback efforts.
UMaine-Farmington finished the 2015-2016 season with the sixth-best team free throw percentage in program history at 70.9%. The Eagles earned the No. 1 overall seed and will host the tournament next weekend while earning a first round bye.
