Eagles Cruise To Win Against Hornets, Now 8-0 in NAC Play

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's basketball team had a tough night from the floor as they fell to Husson University 84-62 in North Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Stannard Gymnasium.

After shooting 49 percent from the field in last night's tilt against Maine Maritime, the Hornets struggled to find the bottom of the net despite open looks, hitting on only 26 percent of their shots.

The Hornets grabbed a 5-3 lead on a three from Raymond Monroe at the 17:23 mark but then went cold.  The Eagles then went on a 13-0 run in less than four minutes.  Xavier Colbert would knock down a free throw and a layup to end the Hornet drought momentarily.

Over the next seven minutes the Eagles would extend the lead out to their biggest of the half at 32-8 with 6:54 to play in the half.  The Hornets slowly crept back and cut the lead to 10 before a three from Mitch Worcester at the end of the half sent the visitors into the break with a 40-27 advantage.

Held to eight points in the first half, Trevon Butler tallied 20 points in the second half to help the Eagles extend the lead again while Lyndon's shooting woes continued.  The Eagles would take their biggest lead of the day, 78-49, at the 6:07 mark before the Hornet reserves went on a 13-6 run to end the game.

Colbert recorded his third double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Avery King (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Robbie Rouelle chipped in eight points apiece off the bench for Lyndon.

Butler finished the day with 28 points and five rebounds while Raheem Anderson added 13 points for the Eagles.

Lyndon (6-6, 4-4 NAC) travels to play Colby-Sawyer Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Husson (10-3, 8-0 NAC) hosts Castleton Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
