Box Score 2 HENNIKER, NH – The Husson University baseball team took a pair of games against New College on the road winning the first 7-1 and the second game 18-6. With the two victories the Eagles improve to 25-14 on the season and 19-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. The two losses drop NEC to 11-22 overall and 8-16 in NAC play.
GAME 1
Pitching and defense led the Eagles to a win in the opener.
Robert Graff (South Portland, ME) picked up in the win to improve to 5-0 on the season. He pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Dennis O'Neil (Mount Desert, ME) pitched two scoreless innings in relief and allowed two hits while picking up two strikeouts.
Brandon Quirk picked up a tough loss for NEC, as he allowed seven runs on six hits while recording three walks and three strikeouts. His defense committed three errors in the field, which caused six of the seven runs he allowed to be unearned.
The Eagles got on the board in the second inning when J.T. Whitten (Waterville, ME) scored on a double play, a lead the Eagles would never lose.
The lead grew to 3-0 after the fourth when Christian Corneil (Bangor, ME) reached on an error scoring Whitten and a Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME) groundout plated Adam Wilson (Harrison, ME).
Whitten and Ryan Rebar (Harmony, ME) each had a multi-hit game for Husson, with Whitten also scoring two runs and getting an RBI.
GAME 2
The Husson bats came to life in game two as they had 23 hits and scored 18 runs. 14 different players picked up hits, while eight Eagles had an RBI. The team also recorded eight doubles.
Carter was had three hits to pace Husson, while Whitten, Corneil, Rebar, Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME), Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME), Darik Messier (North Troy, VT), and Chase Allen (Brewer, ME) had two hits each.
Husson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back, scoring at least two runs in every inning except the fourth.
Brandon Reilly (Pemaquid, ME) picked up the win as he went five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and striking out three batters. Reilly improves to 4-2 on the season.
Francesco Dire took the loss as he falls to 0-5 on the season. Dire allowed 18 hits and 14 runs for the Pilgrims in 4.2 innings. Dire also had a two-run homer at the plate, while Jordan Hubbard picked up three hits.
The Eagles will play their regular season finale at Colby on Tuesday. This non-conference game starts at 4:00.
