Box Score 2 HENNIKER, N.H. – Husson University baseball would earn a split with the New England College Pilgrims in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday, losing game one 4-0 and winning game two by a score of 10-2.
With the split the Pilgrims are now 11-20 overall and 8-14 in the NAC, while the Eagles are now 23-14 on the season and 17-5 in NAC action.
In game one Dan Whitney would carry a no-hitter into the fifth inning before NEC's Steve DeLuca would open the inning with a double to left center field. The Eagles would then get two outs before NEC's Francesco DiRe would reach on a two-out walk, followed by a single to center by Conor Crouse driving in DeLuca followed by a throwing error that would score DiRe. Crouse would score later in the inning on a double over the right fielder's head by Joe Paliotte.
The Pilgrims would tack on a run in the sixth as Vincent Backert doubled to center field followed by a run scoring double to left by DeLuca. Husson would have several scoring opportunities in the game stranding 11 runners on base, including the bases load in the seventh.
Picking up the win on the mound for the Pilgrims was Kyle Bernier who pitched five innings, allowing six hits and no runs.
NEC's Steve DeLuca doubled twice for the Pilgrims. Andrew Curran and J.T. Whitten each finished game one with two hits.
Husson bats would come alive in the opening inning of game two as the Eagles would string together four singles, two hit-by-a-pitch and a walk plating six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Ryan Rebar.
NEC would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning as the Pilgrims would string together four singles, including run scoring singles off the bat of Vincent Backert and Steve DeLuca.
The Eagles would go up 8-2 in the fifth as they would tack on two more runs thanks to back-to-back singles from Christian Corneil and Jordan Carter. Carter would score Corneil after Corneil advanced to second on a stolen base and Carter would score off a single by Ryan Rebar.
Husson would add two more runs in the sixth inning and hold NEC scoreless through the remaining two innings for the 10-2 victory.
Ben Walls picked up the complete game victory on the mound allowing two earned runs on nine hits.
Husson was led by Ryan Rebar at the plate who was 3-for-4 with three runs driven in. Jordan Carter drove in three runs, while Christian Corneil was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
NEC's Vincent Backer and Steve DeLuca each finished game two with two hits and a run driven in.
The two teams will square off in another double-header Sunday, April 26 starting at noon in Henniker.
