Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – The Husson baseball team hosted Castleton at the Winkin Complex, for another NAC doubleheader on Sunday. Husson came out in game one with the bats on fire as they scored ten runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-0 win. The Eagles offense would go cold as they would loss game two 3-0. Husson lost three out of their four games this weekend to Castleton and now sit at 13-3 in the North Atlantic Conference and have a 17-11 overall record.
Game 1: Husson 12, Castleton 0
After losing two games on Saturday, Husson came out looking to get back in the win column and they did just that as they scored ten runs in the first inning. Christian Corneil singled to center field to score Brandon Gendreau giving Husson an Early 1-0 lead. The Eagles were just getting started as Jordan Carter would reach on a fielder's choice that would score Kyle Bishop. The next batter up was Seth Freudenberger and he would keep the Husson offense rolling as he would single into left center, scoring Corneil and J.T. Whitten making it 4-0. Ryan Rebar would add to the lead when he would double down the left field line, which then plated Freudenberger and Carter. Rebar would not be stuck on second for long as the next batter up was Andrew Curran. Curran would single to center, which would bring Rebar home from second base increasing the Huson lead to 7-0. The Eagles would go on to score three more runs on a Whitten double to left field, clearing the bases and scoring Bishop, Gendreau, and Curran making it 10-0 after one inning of play.
Ben Walls in the top half of second, after about a thirty-five minute layoff would face only four batters in the inning recoding a strikeout.
In the home half of the second Husson's bats would show more life as they scored two more runs as Freudenberger and Graffam would come around to score making it 12-0 after two innings of play. 12-0 would be the final in game one, as both teams struggled to get anything going offensively in the remaining five innings
Ben Walls threw a seven inning complete game shutout for the Eagles, giving up just six hits and walking just one batter while striking out five. Walls improves to 3-1 on the year.
Scott Michaels picked up the loss for the Spartans as he pitched just two-thirds of an inning allowing ten runs on seven hits and one walk, while recording one strikeout. Michaels falls to (1-1.) on the season. Castleton would use a total of four pitches in relieve.
Freudenberger went 2-2 at the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored. Whitten went 1-2 with three RBI's and a run scored.
Game 2: Castleton 3, Husson 0
Castleton would finally get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning of game two, when Zach Bahan would take Brandon Reilly deep to left field making it 1-0. Castleton would plate one more run in the inning when Jimmy Buckley scored on a Soren Pelz-Walsh single. The Spartans would go on to add one more run in the fifth inning when Dan Errico singled to right center field scoring Nick Swim making it 3-0.
The Eagles would not be able to put any offense together as they only were able to record four hits as they would drop game two of the double header 3-0.
Brandon Reilly picked up the tough luck loss as he went the distance for the Eagles only allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out a batter in seven innings. Reilly falls to (2-2) on the year.
Picking up the win for Castleton was Devin Hayes (2-0) who pitched a complete game shutout. Hayes allowed no runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 14th when they host Bowdoin College starting at 5:30.
