Baseball Falls in Season-Opening Double-Header

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Husson University baseball team fell in a season-opening doubleheader to WPI by scores of 11-4 in the first game and 9-6 in the second contest. Husson is 0-2 on the season while WPI is 2-0.

In the first contest, WPI scored six runs in the first inning and four in the third to take a 10-0 lead.

Husson got on the board in the top of the fourth when Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) scored on a wild pitch.

JT Whitten (Waterville, ME) walked walked with the bases loaded in the fifth to score Dan Whitney (Bethel, ME) and Julien Boone (Washington, DC) had a sac fly in the sixth to score Christian Corneil (Bangor, ME), making it 10-3 after six.

Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME) singled in Ryan Rebar (Harmony, ME) in the seventh to complete the Eagles' scoring.

Ben Walls (Bar Harbor, ME) took the loss for Husson as he gave up four earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched while striking out four and walking three batters.

In the second contest, scored three runs in the top of the first, but a Bishop single scored Rebar to cut the lead to 3-1 after one.

WPI tacked on two more runs in the third, and one in the fourth to make it 6-1 after four innings.

Husson came right back, as Gendreau doubled to left field to score Seth Freudenberger (Bangor, ME) and Zach Sugar (Canton, CT). Whitten then grounded out but knoecked in Rebar to make it 6-4 after five.

Husson made it 6-5 after six when Boone slammed a homerun, but WPI scored three times in the top of the seventh to push the game out of reach.

Rebar went 2-3 in the game while Bishop also had a pair of hits and a RBI. Gendreau finished 1-4 with the two RBIs.

Tommy Burns (Eddington, ME) took the loss for Husson as he pitched 3.0 innings and gave up four earned runs. Robert Graff (South Portland, ME) came in for Burns and pitched the last 4.0 innings and gave up two earned runs.
