Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Trevon Butler and Raheem Anderson each scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Eagles to a 93-78 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in the 5th annual Husson Sports Hall of Fame game and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon in Newman Gym.
Husson (3-1, 2-0 NAC) wins its second-straight game, while Maine Maritime (2-3, 1-1 NAC) drop their last 51 of 53 matchups to the Eagles and falls to 16-53 in the series.
The Mariners led by as much as six points with 11:32 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to build a 25-21 lead courtesy of 18 points from Butler and 15 from Anderson, while Tyler Norris chipped in nine points and entered the intermission with the 48-34 advantage.
Husson went on a 9-4 run to open up the second half and led 66-46 with 11:46 remaining. A three by Brendan Newcomb at 11:36, sparking a 9-0 run by the Mariners to close the gap to 66-55 with 10:30 left in the game, but only could cut the lead to 11 as the Eagles pulled away in the closing minutes of the game for the victory.
Butler led all players with nine boards, while Anderson chipped in with four rebounds and four assists. Norris contributed 11 points, seven boards and three steals. Zach Curran added 15 points to the Eagles offense to go along with his 5 rebounds, one steal and a game-high two blocks, while Darryl Wood scored five points off the bench.
Tyler Thayer led the Mariners with a career high 26 points and three rebounds, Newcomb added an impressive 25 points and five rebounds, and Tyler Gilson led the Mariners with seven rebounds, while adding 10 points and a block.
Husson recognized the university's 30th Sports Hall of Fame class (Shelby Bradford '10 (women's soccer, women's basketball, women's lacrosse), Adam Duplisea '08 (men's golf), Randy Fletcher '03 (men's basketball), Joey Melanson '00 (men's soccer), Shane Rogers '10 (football) and the 1995 Baseball Team) during halftime of the game for their accomplishments, athletic performances, leadership, and contributions to their teams while at Husson University and the retirement jersey ceremony of former men's basketball player and Husson Sports Hall of Famer Bob Cimbollek '59.
The Eagles will return to court on Tuesday, December 8th when they travel to Lewiston, Maine to face Bates College for an 8:00 p.m. non-conference game. Maine Maritime will also return to action on Tuesday, December 8th when they host Bowdoin College for a non-conference battle at 7:30 pm.
