BANGOR, Maine. - Husson University men's swimming & diving opened up the 2015-16 home portion of their schedule with a dual meet win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 113-79 on Friday evening at Webber Pool for their first win in 41 years.
Husson started off fast with a win in the 200 yard medley relay as Grant Gerber, Colin Vidas, James Nealey and Dylan Tremblay posted a time of 1:58.79. Matt Carter posted the top time in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:58.02) and the 500 yard freestyle (6:37.45), while Gerber added wins in the 50 yard breaststroke (30.40) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.72) as well adding a second place finish in the 200 yard IM with a new school record of 2:17.27. He smashed the previous mark that was set in 1971 by Bob Wheeler by four seconds.
Nealey had a strong day in the pool as well with three second place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly with a new school record of 1:02.36, the 100 yard backstroke coming in at 1:07.35 and the 50 yard butterfly with his second school record of the meet at 26.77.
The Eagles ended the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay as Tremblay, Caelan lecrone, Carter & Vidas posted a time of 1:48.26.
For the Monks, Alex Gilvey posted the top time in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.73), 50 yard freestyle (24.91) and 100 yard backstroke (59.78), while Ben Johnson added a wins in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.01) and 200 yard IM (2:12.45). Andrew Merlino had the top time in the 50 yard backstroke (28.97) as well as the 100 yard freestyle (55.23) and 50 yard butterfly (26.07).
The Green and Gold return to the pool on Saturday, November 14 when they host the University of New England men's club team starting at 6:00 p.m.
