Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine — The Husson University women's soccer team defeats Thomas College, 1-0, in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
The teams went back and forth with equal scoring opportunities in the first half, with the Eagles outshooting the Terriers by just a 9-6 margin. Both defenses stood strong, however, and the score remained scoreless going into the half.
Husson (6-7-1, 3-3 NAC) was able to generate more time in the Thomas end in the second half and, in the 84th minute, was able to get a shot past Thomas goalkeeper Paige Leary. Hannah Clough made a through pass to Katey Curtis, who netted the breakaway goal to give Husson the 1-0 lead.
Thomas (6-8, 3-4 NAC) was unable to answer in the final minutes.
Leary was strong in goal for the Terriers, allowing just one goal on 14 shots on goal in the loss. Kayla Gordon recorded the shutout for the Eagles, stopping all four shots on goal she faced.
Thomas first-year forward Cassie Contigiani led all players with five shots, including a pair on goal.
The Eagles will host University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday, October 20 for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Boucher Field. Thomas will travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday, October 20 for a 5:00 p.m. North Atlantic Conference match.
