Men's Basketball Falls at Colby

WATERVILLE, ME – The No. 23 Husson University men's basketball team fell at Colby by the score of 99-94 on Tuesday evening at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Colby improves to 7-4 while Husson falls to 8-2.

The White Mules took a 51-45 lead into halftime behind  58.8 percent shooting from the field, beating out Husson's solid shooting at 51.7 percent.  Eli Itkin (Pawtucket, RI) had an impressive first 20 minutes for the Eagles, making all five of his shots including going 4-4 from long range. 

Colby took a nine-point edge a minute into the second half at 54-45, but Husson responded with a 16-to-8 run the next five minutes to get within 62-61.

The White Mules answered with a 10-to-4 run taking a 72-65 lead with just under 11 minutes to go, but the Eagles fought back again, getting within two at 72-70 on an Aaron Willis (New York, NY) three-point play with a layup and free throw with just over nine minutes left. 

The Eagles would get within three twice more down the stretch, but the hot-shooting Mules converted free throws down the stretch to push the lead just out of reach of Husson.

Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) had a game-high 27 points to go with nine rebounds and seven steals. Itkin finished with 22 points as did Raheem Anderson (Miramar, FL).

Colby was led by Chris Hudnut who had 26 points. 

The Mules shot 59.0 percent for the game while Husson shot 50 percent.  Colby held the rebounding edge, 38-34, and went 23-32 from the free throw line while Husson went 18-28. 

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they host Maine Maritime at 1 p.m.
