Box Score 3 Bangor, ME – The University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals outlasted three other schools to take home the 2014 Husson University Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Newman Gymnasium. UMFK went 3-0 through round-robin play, and then defeated the host Husson Eagles in the championship in straight sets (25-12, 25-22, 25-11) to earn the trophy.
UMFK and Husson played a hotly contested five-set match to start out the morning in round-robin play, with UMFK narrowly escaping (26-28, 25-18, 25-12, 22-25, 15-7). The Bengals then cruised by the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls in straight sets (25-11, 25-14, 25-10) to earn their spot in the championship match.
Husson followed up the tough match with UMFK with another five-set marathon, finally edging out the Unity College Rams (25-21, 20-25, 16-25, 25-16, 15-10) to punch their ticket to the finals.
Unity went 2-2 for the tournament, defeating UMPI in round-robin play (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) and in the consolation round (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) to earn third place. UMPI finished up the weekend at 0-4.
Six players were recognized with All-Tournament Team honors for their outstanding play in their respective matches:

Husson will be back in action next weekend when they travel to St. Joseph's College (ME) in Standish for the SJC Autumn Invitational. The Eagles will kick-off the tourney by facing the Lyndon State College Hornets on Friday (September 5) at 6 pm, followed by matches with St. Joe's and Bates College.
