Baseball Splits Day Two Twin Bill With NEC

Bangor, ME - The Eagles allowed a four-run fourth inning in game one and exploded for twelve runs  in the first two innings of game two to split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Winkin Complex. 

Game 1:

Husson tallied the first score of a 4-2 loss with a J.T. Whitten fielder's choice that scored Dylan Foster. Foster continued his fantastic weekend going 3-4 in game two and scored two runs in the game.

The Pilgrims answered back in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on Husson starter Dennis O'Neil. O'Neil lasted six innings while giving up four runs, three of which earned, on five hits while walking two and fanning five.

Husson tacked on their second and final run in the fifth with the help of Whitten and Foster once again. Foster scored on a Whitten single to center, moving Pat Thibodeau (in his first game back since Husson's spring Florida trip) to second.

On the other side, NEC's Brandon Quirk went the distance striking out eight Eagles in seven innings while allowing just two runs on six hits with two walks.

Zach Yates entered the game for the final inning for Husson striking out two in a 1-2-3 seventh.

Game 2:

In the second game, Husson asserted itself early, scoring four runs in the first and eight in the second. Cody McInnis had four RBI en route to a 14-5 victory.

The Eagles tallied five hits in the bottom of the second to score their eight runs, the most in an inning all weekend. Brandon Gendreau, McInnis, Thibodeau, Whitten and Kyle Bishop all had hits to propel the Eagles to the NAC win.

Ben Walls Earned his first win of the year in four innings. The first-year pitcher struck out four while giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits. Ben Holmes, Seth Freudenbuger and Casey Estes all received an inning of work allowing two hits and a run between the trio.

Husson broke the .500 mark on the season this weekend, improving to 8-8 and moving to 5-4 in conference. NEC is now 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the NAC.

The Eagles return to NAC action this Wednesday night the 9th for a doubleheader with Thomas College. First pitch is slated for 5:00pm.
