Box Score 2 New London, NH - Husson baseball picked up a pair of North Atlantic Conference wins Saturday afternoon at Colby-Sawyer College by a final of 4-2 and 3-2. Both Husson pitchers went the distance as Brandon Reilly and Pat McEwen improved to 2-2 in two strong seven-inning performances.
Game 1:
The Chargers managed the first runs of the afternoon in the second inning. Kyle Greenwood hit a triple to right center scoring Jake Szulak and Greenwood scored moments later on a Brett Emmertz single. Both runs were unearned.
The Eagles battled back two innings later and tacked four runs on to go ahead by the final, 4-2. J.T. Whitten scored on a passed ball and Josh Gaudette singled shortly after to score Dennis Meehan Kyle Bishop to take the lead. Jordan Carter singled to center later in the inning to plate Gaudette, the insurance run.
Pitchers on both sides played well in game one. Reilly improved to 2-2 on the year with a two-run, five-hit performance while striking out three in seven innings. PJ Singster went the distance for the Chargers, tossing a four-run, seven-hit start while also striking out three.
Gaudette ended 1-2 with two RBI and a walk in the winning effort for the Eagles. Jordan Carter tallied the only two-hit performance for Husson going 2-3 with the lone RBI.
Game 2:
Game two started with a lot offense in the first inning for both Husson and CSC. Husson needed just three runs to win, and scored all of them in the top of the first frame.
Kyle Bishop batted in Pat Thibodeau on a double to left center that advanced J.T. Whitten to third. Whitten scored moments later on a wild pitch that send Bishop to third. Brandon Gendreau knocked in the left fielder on an RBI infield single to make it 3-0 Husson.
Colby-Sawyer managed their two runs in the bottom half of the first, but could not manage to add any more through the remainder of the contest.
Pat McEwen went seven strong for the Green and Gold. The starter allowed both runs, one of which earned, on just six hits and two walks with five K's.
Charger starter Austin Crow lasted just two-thirds of an inning in the loss. Crow is now 0-2 in 2014 with the three-hit, three hit and three-walk performance.
With the two wins the Eagles jump to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer falls to 4-14 and 1-5 in conference.
Both games scheduled for Sunday have been rained out.
