Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University men's basketball team defeated Lyndon State 93-76 to advance to the North Atlantic Conference Championship on Friday night at Newman Gymnasium.
The Eagles dominated the first half setting the tone for the game, with four of their first six scoring drives resulting in 3-pointers Husson jumped out to a 13-7 lead with 17:05 remaining in the first half.
Husson shot 44.8% from the field in the first half, including six 3-pointers. The Eagles were paced by Aaron Willis (New York, NY) who led the team with 9 points in the first half. David Johnson led the Hornets with 15 points in the first half.
The Eagles opened up the scoring in the second half on the hot hands of Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) who started the half with two 3-pointers, lending an assist to Donte Cottonham (Silver Spring, MD) for a jumper, edging the lead to 52-34.
Willis ended the night with 15 points, Dan Fleming (Fairfield, ME) and Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) both added 14 points. Butler grabbed the double double with 10 rebounds.
Johnson finished the night with the game high 27 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
"It's never easy in the postseason and sometimes it's not the way you want it, but the important thing is to win. We are proud of our group and look forward to competing for a championship tomorrow," said Head Coach Warren Caruso.
Husson University (25-2) will play UMaine Farmington (13-14), who upset Castleton Friday night 107-97 to advance, tomorrow at 2:00 PM for the North Atlantic Conference Championship.
