Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Win; Will Host Quarterfinal Tuesday

Waterville, ME - Husson University won its final game of the regular season at Thomas College, 73-45, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball tilt on Saturday afternoon. 

With the loss, Thomas ends the regular season with a 4-21 (4-14 NAC) record, while Husson's regular season comes to a close with a 14-11 (16-5 NAC) record.

The hosts jumped out a to a quick 5-0 start, with a jumper by Goodall and a three-pointer from Ashleigh Gagne. The Eagles however responded with a 6-0 run led by Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) and Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) to exchange the early lead. After taking what would be their last lead of the contest at 11:52 on a made free throw by Goodall, the Red and Black were unable to stop Husson from going on an 11-0 run with outstanding play from Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) to push their lead to double digits.

Husson went into halftime with a comfortable 21 point lead, 43-22, led by McIntyre with 14 points and A. Johnson with 10. 

The second half proved to be much of the same as the first, with the home side unable to cut into the Husson lead. The Eagles jumped out by as much as 32 points at the five minute mark on a layup by Chrissy Larrabee (Brooks, ME).

Husson was led by McIntyre with 14 points, all in the opening stanza. Amanda Johnson chipped in with 10 points off the bench, and Husson's bench totaled 40 points altogether on the day.

Overall, Thomas shot 21.8% (12-55) from the floor, while their counterpart went 27-72 (37.5%) from the hardwood on the day. Husson held a 53-43 advantage in rebounds, while controlling points in the paint, 32-4.

With the win, Husson clinched the fourth seed heading into the NAC Championship and will host fifth-seeded New England College on Tuesday for a quarterfinal match-up. Game time to be determined. For a full release on the NAC Women's Basketball Tournament, click here.
