Waterville, ME - Husson University men's basketball wrapped up the regular season with a victory over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon, 104-70. Husson clinched the regular season North Atlantic Conference Championship and the right to host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

The early stages of the opening half saw both teams go back and forth, with neither team leading by more than six points in the first 15 minutes. After a layup by Thomas' Garen Manzo at 7:18, Husson would go on a 22-2 run, holding the Terriers to one basket for nearly seven minutes, and take a commanding 25 point lead.

The Eagles went into halftime with a 49-30 advantage, while shooting 48.6% (17-35) in the first stanza, while the Red and Black went 9-27 (33.3%) from the floor and had 16 turnovers. Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) scored 13 points for Husson in the opening half, and teammate Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) added 10. Dan Fleming (Fairfield, ME) came off the bench to lead the team with five rebounds.

The closing half was much of the same, with the Eagles continuing to shoot well from the floor, and finished the contest with a 34 point advantage, 104-70.

Butler led the contest with 22 points, while shooting 9-18 from the hardwood and eight caroms. Fleming also ended the day with eight rebounds.

Overall, Thomas shot 38.9% (21-54) from the field, while going 7-17 (36.8%) from downtown. Husson went 37-73 (50%) from the floor, while shooting 44% (11-25) from the perimeter. The Eagles also held a 46-30 edge in rebounds.

The 2012-13 North Atlantic Conference defending champion Husson secured the top seed in the upcoming NAC Men's Basketball Tournament. The Eagles (23-2 overall, 17-1 NAC) will host eighth-seeded Johnson State College (6-19 overall, 3-15 NAC) in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday. The time is TBD.
