Husson Women's Basketball Downs Hornets, 66-43

Bangor, ME – Husson University women's basketball faced Lyndon State on Friday evening at Newman Gymnasium in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match-up. The Eagles used above-average shooting and relentless defense to shut down the Hornets, 66-43. With the win, Husson improves to 11-11 (9-5 NAC). Lyndon State falls to 3-17 (3-12 NAC).

Husson jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first five minutes and continued to extend their lead throughout the first half. The Eagles led by as much as 20 points (30-10) with minutes left on the clock and carried a 34-14 lead into the half. In the opening half, Husson shot 51.7 percent from the field to Lyndon's 15 percent. Rebecca Young (Concord, VT) led the Eagles with 10 first half points, and Samira Cruz (Orlando, FL) had eight first half rebounds. Chelsea Watson (Eliot, ME) scored eight points for the Hornets.

The Eagles continued to control the game in the second half. With ten minutes remaining, the hosts led 52-24, and they held a 62-32 advantage with five minutes remaining. The Hornets could not muster a comeback and fell 66-43.

A number of Husson players contributed to the win, with every player contributing minutes. Young finished the day with a game-high 13 points, and Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) added 9 of her own. Cruz put up nine points and tied for a game-high eight rebounds. Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) grabbed five rebounds and dished out a game-high four assists for Husson.

Watson was the leading scorer for Lyndon State with 12 points on the day, and Drew Neal (Glover, VT) added 11 points. Chelsea Bagley (Wallingford, CT) tied for a game-high eight rebounds.

The Hornets will continue their Maine road trip with a Saturday game at Maine Maritime. Husson will host Johnson State on Saturday, with an updated start time of 2:30 PM.
