Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Husson University men's basketball team to an 80-69 win at Thomas on Tuesday evening. Husson improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in NAC play while Thomas falls to 1-6 and 0-1.
The Terriers took a 41-36 lead into halftime and expanded it to 46-38 two minutes into the second half.
However, the Eagles went on a 22-to-four run with Aaron Willis (New York, NY) scoring nine of his team-high 19 points during the stretch to give Husson a 60-50 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
The Terrier got within four at 60-56 with eight minutes left, but a
Mitch Worcester (Washburn, ME) trifecta a minute later pushed the lead back to seven.
The Terriers scored the next four points and got within 63-60 with six minutes to go, but another Worcester three-pointer and a Willis layup stretched the lead back to eight.
Husson forced a turnover and Jacob Moore (Hampden, ME) converted on the other end to push the lead to double digits. The Eagles forced another miss and Moore converted another layup to push the lead to 72-60 with under four minutes left.
Thomas crept back into the contest and got within six with a minute left, but Willis converted two free throws to push the game out of reach.
Willis added seven rebounds and five assists to go with his 19 points while Moore and Worcester each finished with 11 points.
Levi Barnes had 34 points to lead Thomas.
Husson shot 34.9 percent for the game while Thomas shot 43.8 percent. The Eagles forced 22 turnovers and scored 31 points of those turnovers.
The Eagles return to the court on Saturday at Maine Maritime.
