Box Score BANGOR, ME - The Husson University men's basketball team fell to Bates by the score of 74-65 on Saturday evening at Newman Gymnasium. Husson falls to 1-1 on the year while Bates goes to 3-0. The Eagles were led by Aaron Willis (New York, NY) who had a game-high 14 points.
The Eagles took a 30-27 lead at halftime courtesy of eight points from Raheem Anderson (Everglades, FL) and six from Eli Itkin (Providence, RI).
In the second stanza, Willis opened with a three to push the Eagles' lead to six points, but Bates responded with an 11-to-two run and take a 38-35 lead with 15:58 left.
Willis nailed a three to bring Husson back and tie it at 40, and Jacob Moore (Hampde, ME) converted a pair of free throws to knot the game at 44.
However, the Bobcats scored the next 14 points and began to pull away.
With the Bobcats up 72-55, the Eagles went on a 9-to-2 run, but ran out of time.
Itkin finished with 12 points and four rebounds while Anderson added 13. Matt Talbot (Portland, ME) added 10 points and five boards with Moore adding nine points.
Bates was led by Graham Safford with 13 points and Marcus Delpeche and Mike Boornazian with 11 points each.
Husson continues play on Monday at Nichols for a 7 p.m. game.
