Box Score BANGOR, ME - The Husson University women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to St. Joseph's by the score of 82-78 on Thursday evening. The Eagles fall to 0-2 on the year while the Monks go to 1-0. Husson was led Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME) who had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.
After the game was tied at 32 at halftime, the Monks slowly built a lead, and held a 56-49 lead with six minutes left in regulation. However, Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME), Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) and Kelsea Bouchard (Winslow, ME) each made a pair of free throws to get the Eagles within one with just under five minutes left.
Morgan Cahill stopped the run with a layup for St. Joseph's, but a Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) jumper and two more Comstock free throws knotted the game at 58 with two minutes left.
Norma Waggett gave St. Joseph's the lead again, but Guerrette made a driving layup with 20 seconds left to send the game to overtime knotted at 60.
The Monks took a 65-62 lead early in the first overtime, but the Eagles came right back as Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME) scored seven-straight points for the Eagles around a Monks layup to give Husson a 69-67 lead with 1:18 left.
A Molly Mack layup and Emily Kehoe free throw briefly gave the Monks the lead, but Guerrette sank a free throw with 34 seconds left to send the game into a second extra session.
St. Joseph's scored the first four points in the second overtime, but buckets by McIntyre and Denae Johnson (Bangor, ME) tied the contest yet again. However, the Monks scored eight out of the next 10 points to grab the win away from the Eagles.
McIntyre finished with 13 points and nine rebounds while Guerrette had 12 points and four rebounds. Comstock added 13 points and nine rebounds.
St. Joseph's was led by Morgan Cahill who had 30 points and 12 rebounds.
The Eagles shot 34.1 percent from the field while the Monks shot 34.7 percent. St. Joseph's had 38 rebounds to Husson's 32.
Husson returns to action on Dec. 2 at Thomas.
