Box Score Standish, ME – The Husson University volleyball team fell to 8-20 on the season with a road loss against non-conference foe St. Joseph's College (ME) on Tuesday night.
The Monks of St. Joe's improve to 8-19 with the win they earned in straight sets (25-17, 25-11, 25-23).
Kaitlyn Carl (East Machias, ME) led the Eagles on the night, putting away six kills on 15 attacks and compiling a .333 hitting average.
Kristen Atwood (Cumberland, ME) also notched six kills, while
Emma Plouffe (Frankfort, NY) added three and
Bailey Cote (Biddeford, ME) had two.
Carl also tallied three service aces in the match, while
Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) posted two aces and two solo blocks.
Sarah Wilson (Dover, NH) was a standout defensively, collecting a team-high 15 digs for Husson.
Felicia Wachowiak was the match leader in kills for St. Joe's, totaling nine on the evening to go with three aces and three solo blocks. Shandal Gosselin had six kills for the winners, while Abbie McPhee distributed 18 assists and Sam Wright picked up 20 digs.
"We played well in spurts, but we couldn't pull it out tonight, " Husson coach
Jodie Fairbank said after the match. "Now we're eager to get into our last two conference matches that we'll host this weekend," she added.
Husson now has just two regular season matches left on its schedule. They'll host a
North Atlantic Conference tri-match on Saturday at the Newman Gymnasium, as the Eagles will take on Maine Maritime Academy at 11 a.m. and Green Mountain College at 3 p.m.
