Volleyball Grabs Two Conference Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Castine, ME - The Husson University volleyball team came into Saturday's doubleheader searching for their first North Atlantic Conference victory of the year.  They would find not one, but two triumphs on the day as they bested both the Johnson State Badgers and the Lyndon State Hornets to even their NAC record at 2-2.

Husson started the day with a straight-set victory over Johnson State (25-12, 25-14, 25-16), and they finished it off with a come-from-behind five-set win over Lyndon (21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 15-11).

Emma Plouffe (Frankfort, NY) led the Eagles offense in the match with Johnson, putting away six kills on 13 attacks.  Nia Arranaga (San Jose, CA) tallied five kills for Husson, with Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) and Bailey Cote (Biddeford, ME) each adding four.

Kaitlyn Carl (East Machias, ME) collected a match-high nine digs to pace the Eagles' defense, and she also was effective at the service line with seven aces.  Cote added five aces and two block assists for Husson, while Ryan Hood (Princeton, ME) led the team with seven assists.

Johnson (4-15, 1-3 NAC) was led by Breanna Laughlin in kills (5), aces (2), and digs (9) for the match.

Husson fell behind the Lyndon Hornets two sets to one, but the Eagles were able to right the ship and come back for the hard-fought win which went the distance.

Cote was a standout once again, putting away nine kills to lead the Husson offense.  Arranaga was solid all around with four kills, four aces, and four digs, while libero Sarah Wilson (Dover, NH) scooped a team-high 11 digs.

Lyndon (6-11, 2-2 NAC) was led by Kelleigh Murtagh with seven kills, while Laura Drake notched a match-high 19 digs.

Husson improves their overall record to 8-19 with the two wins as they enter their last week of regular season play.  The Eagles will travel to St. Joseph's (ME) on Tuesday night, and they'll host a NAC tri-match at the Newman Gymnasium on Saturday, taking on Maine Maritime Academy and Green Mountain College.
