Defense Leads Eagles to 12-6 Win Over Gallaudet

BANGOR, ME – John Smith (Fayetville, GA) had 123 yards on the ground and a score and Stephan Dance (New London, CT) made a team-high 6 tackles to lead the Husson University football team to a 12-6 homecoming win over Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Sports Complex. With the win, Husson improves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in ECFC play while Gallaudet falls to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The Eagles would take the lead with 4:17 left in the first quarter, converting on their second drive of the game on a 2-yard carry by Smith. The drive was kept alive as Joe Seccareccia (Bangor, ME) rolled out to the right and hooked up with an open Josiah Hartley (Bangor, ME) for a 36-yard gain on 3rd and 10. The Eagles extra point attempt would be blocked.

Husson would increase the lead to 12 with 1:03 left in the second quarter. The 10-play, 42-yard drive was capped off as Seccareccia found a wide-open Ryan Stroud (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) for the 3-yard touchdown. The Eagles failed to convert the two-point attempt.

The Bison cut the lead to 6 with 1:47 left in the 4th quarter. David Jones completed a 13-yard pass to Myles Goldberg. The Eagles blocked the extra point attempt.

Gallaudet attempted an onside kick but Ellis Throckmorton (Bangor, ME) recovered it safely.

Smith rushed his 123 yards on 23 carries and a score while Logan Steward (Hampden, ME) carried the ball 16 times for 68 yards.

Seccareccia finished the game with 151 yards through the air, one touchdown and two interceptions. Stroud finished with three catches for 76 yards and a score while Hartley added two catches for 39 yards.

The Eagles held the Bison to 155 total yards while racking up 366 yards, including 215 yards on the ground.

Jaris Alleyne led the Bison with 11 total tackles. Ryan Santana and Brandon Capuano each had an interception in the game.

Husson returns to the field on Saturday, October 25th for a 1:00pm away game against conference opponent Castleton.
