Box Score BANGOR, ME - The Husson University women's soccer team fell to Bates by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Boucher Field. Husson falls to 8-5-0 on the year while Bates improves to 7-5-0.
Libby Malasky gave Bates the lead in the 44th minute when she received a rebound right in front of Husson goalkeeper Anna Wolterbeek (Wells, ME) and was able to shoot low and beat the keeper.
Bates would take a 2-0 lead into halftime as there was a scramble in front of the net and Caroline Andy was able to sneak it past Wolterbeek moments before the horn sounded.
Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, RI) got the Eagles within one with a magnificent play in the 60th minute. She took the ball just past the 18 and dribbled towards the middle, beating two Bobcat defenders. Hibbad drilled a shot that was still rising as it beat the Bates goalkeeper and hit the top of the net.
Julia Rosen scored the final goal of the match in the 61st minute as she dribbled to her left and shot across the goal mouth to the left of Wolterbeek.
"We gave up some ugly goals tonight, but beyond those, our team did a lot of things well against a good Bates side," said Husson head coach Carly Gettler. "Individually, Leah scored a fantastic goal, and Anna was very solid in net."
Wolterbeek finished with 17 saves while Sarah McCarthy made three for Bates.
The Eagles return to the field on Saturday at Maine-Farmington for a 12 p.m. match.
