Field Hockey Picks Up Second Conference Win

Box Score

Bangor, ME - Husson field hockey downed New England College of New Hampshire Saturday at the Winkin Complex by a final of 6-1. The Eagles tallied 53 shots on the afternoon, second most in a game in school history.

Sabrina Vaillancourt put Husson on the board first just over eight minutes into the game collecting a ball from a Pilgrim defender in the circle and tucking it past the keeper.

Just over 13 minutes later Vaillancourt led the charge again for the Eagles taking a penalty corner and feeding to Samantha Blanchard. Blanchard had little trouble firing a shot past NEC goalie Courtney Duquette for the game's second goal.

A minute and a half later the Vaillancourt/Blanchard tandem hooked up again for a goal off a corner on almost the same exact play. Blanchard took the feed, pushed once to her right and fired past Duquette to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Vaillancourt added two more points to her illustrious career in the 32nd minute. Husson pressed forward by way of Liz Noddin who released to Vaillancourt for the fourth goal on the afternoon.

The Green and Gold would extend their lead less than a minute into the second half. Logan Wilson dished to Mariah Arno for her first goal of the day to put the Eagles up 5-0 in the 36th minute.

The Pilgrims caged their first tally in the 39th minute. Kristen O'Connell fed nicely to Carissa O'Brien and O'Brien snuck a beautiful shot past Maicee Gustin to make it 5-1.

Husson added a final tally in the 46th minute to go up 6-1, the final score. It was Vaillancourt yet again lighting up the board as Taylor Lovely earned the assist on the final goal. Vaillancourt ended the day with seven total points.

Duquette ended the day with 30 saves on the the 36 shots she saw on net, while Husson's Gustin saved one of the two shots the Pilgrims put on cage.

With the win Husson improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the NAC while NEC falls to 2-9 and 0-2 in conference play.

The Eagles will be back at the Winkin Complex in 24 hours as they take on Rivier Sunday at 1:00pm.
