Box Score New London, NH - The Husson University field hockey team received two first half goals from senior Sabrina Vaillancourt (Newport, ME) to defeat Colby-Sawyer 2-0 in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at Mercer Field.
With today's goals, Vaillancourt becomes the all-time leader in career points for Husson field hockey. In the first game of her senior campaign earlier this season, Vaillancourt rewrote the record book as all-time leading goal-scorer for Husson, as well.
The Eagles improve to 4-2 overall and are 1-0 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer dips to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Vaillancourt put the visitors on top just 54 seconds into the first half. Freshman Lindsey Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) sent a pass to the front of the cage where Vaillancourt redirected the ball into the left corner for her fourth goal of the season.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead with five minutes left to play in the first half when Vaillancourt notched her second tally of the contest. She found the back of the cage after gaining control of a loose ball.
Sophomore goalie Maicee Gustin (Dexter, ME) and freshman Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, RI) each played a half and did not have to make a save in the combined shutout. Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, NH) had a solid game in the cage and kept the Chargers within striking distance. Dumayne turned away 17 shots.
The Eagles outshot Colby-Sawyer 27-3 and held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
Colby-Sawyer will step out of NAC play to host Daniel Webster on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Husson will host New England College next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
