Box Score Castine, ME – The Husson University men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw in their first North Atlantic Conference matchup of the season when they travelled to play the Mariners from Maine Maritime Wednesday night.
The Eagles saw one of their best scoring chances early in the game when Joshua Bean (Ellsworth, ME) had a cross opportunity against Mariner goalkeeper Jesse Perkins who made an unbelievable save to keep the game scoreless.
Defensively the Eagles hung strong only letting 3 shots advance to goalie Brian Potter (Waterville, ME).
With a little over a minute left in the second overtime Husson saw flashes of victory on the foot of Cooper Antone (Hampden, ME), but yet again Perkins was there to keep the game scoreless with another acrobatic save.
"I thought the guys played great, on both ends of the field and both sides of the ball. It was a really great performance with outstanding play from Alain Tuyishime (Rwanda), Brian Potter, Jacob Erskine (Sidney, ME), Josh Bean, Kyle Hargreaves (Raymond, ME) and the whole back 4," said head coach Jeff Gettler, "It was a very good game, we are sorry we dropped the two points and got a draw but we did everything we could to win and their keeper did a great job of keeping them in the game and giving them the draw."
Husson is now 0-4-2 overall and 0-0-1 in NAC play. They will host another conference opponent this Saturday, September 21st when the University of Maine at Farmington will travel to Boucher Field for a 5:00 PM match time.
