Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson women's soccer fell to non-conference opponent University of New England 1-0, Wednesday night.
The Eagles went into the half seeing multiple scoring opportunities coming from reining NAC Rookie of the Week, Lacey Kent-Webber (St. Albans, ME) who went toe to toe with UNE goalie Gina Iannazzi, and was just beaten to the ball to keep the score 0-0.
First year Sydney Costa (Acushnet, MA) took a team leading 4 shots, 3 on goal to pressure Iannazzi.
The game swung in favor or both teams at times, with Husson finding multiple scoring opportunities late in the 2nd half on two Nor'Easter fouls and then 2 Eagle corner kicks.
The back line was strong yet again for the Eagles, with Erin Boulier (Bangor, ME), Katie Cyr (Hampden, ME), and Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) breaking up plays left and right to keep Husson goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) protected.
Unfortunately the game would end in heartbreak once again for the Eagles who saw their chances diminished by a late goal from Kayla Hamel (Lewiston, ME) edging out the victory for the Nor'Easters.
Poulin made 6 saves in net, while Iannazzi made 10 stops.
"We did so many things well tonight and showed so much potential, but we had a few lapses, one of which led to a late goal," said Head Coach Carly Gettler, "We are young and still figuring out who we are as a team, and our early stumbles are teaching us a lot about ourselves."
The Eagles, now 1-4, will hope for some late game heroics of their own this Saturday when they host UMaine Machias at 2:00 PM.
