Box Score Waterville, ME - Chris Pratt and Keith Chernin both had two assists as the Colby College men's soccer team took a 3-0 halftime lead on the way to a 4-1 victory over Husson University on Tuesday in non-conference play.
The Mules improve to 1-1 overall, while Husson drops to 0-4-1 overall. The Eagles took a 3-0 victory over Colby last year in Bangor.
Husson men's soccer coach Jeff Gettler commented on the loss, "We continue to find ways to beat ourselves. There were some bright performances from Alain Tuyishime, Viktor Domberg, and Jimmy Fitzpatrick, but overall we just continue to make mistakes that lead to goals."
Colby went ahead just 3:22 into the game when Pratt lobbed a ball to Andrew Woonton, who was able to chip the ball over Husson goalkeeper Steven Paquette (Ferrisburgh, VT).
The Mules made it 2-0 at 10:52 of the first half when Chernin dished to Charlie Dupee, who scored from the top of the box.
Colby made it 3-0 at halftime when Jon Stronach found the back of the net off a pass from Pratt.
Husson cut the margin to 3-1 on an own goal by Colby just 9:15 into the second half.
The Mules added an insurance goal with 12:50 left in the game. Jonathan Sommer touched in a pass from Chernin.
Peter Quayle made four saves in goal for the Mules to earn his first win of the season. Paquette stopped nine shots for the Eagles.
Colby had a 29-12 advantage in shots and an 8-5 margin in corner kicks.
Husson will have seven days to prepare before they open North Atlantic Conference play at Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday, September 18, at 5:00 PM.
