Bangor, ME – Husson women's soccer was outdone by Western New England University 1-0 with just minutes remaining in the game Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field.

In the final day of the 9th Annual Husson Classic, Husson and Western New England played a scoreless game for the first 87 minutes of play. The two teams switched possessions and scoring chances frequently until the Golden Bears were able to wear down the Eagles defense and steal a shot that just went over the extended arms of Husson goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, ME).

Brionna Voight (Springfield, MA) scored her first career goal, and the game winner for the Golden Bears, clinching the 9^th Annual Husson Classic Title.

Poulin was phenomenal in goal once again stopping 13 shots and establishing a powerful presence in the goal. The Eagle defense was anchored by sophomore Erin Boulier (Bangor, ME) who was quick to stop any ensuing pressure from the Golden Bears and broke up any developing chances for offense.

Husson saw flashes of promising offensive from some of their first year players Shaunna Beaudoin (Brookton, ME), Sydney Costa (Acushnet, MA), and Lacey Kent-Webber (St. Albans, ME) among others.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Carly Gettler said, "We brought in some great competition to our tournament this weekend, and we put up a great fight against two very good teams yesterday and today. We showed a lot of resilience to bounce back from overtime yesterday and put together such a gritty performance right down to the end today, Jess Poulin and our back line especially."

Briana Kubik (Blandford, MA) earned the win in net for the Golden Bears with 4 saves on the afternoon.

The Eagles who have played very well but dealt heartbreaking defeats, fall to 0-2 on the young season and hope to rebound quickly when they hit the road next weekend to face Eastern Nazarene and Wheelock on Saturday (Sept 7) and Sunday (Sept 8).
