Box Score 2 Henniker, NH – Husson baseball swept Sunday's doubleheader with New England College winning game one 4-0 and game two 10-2.
Game 1:
Husson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning when Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME) reached on a hit by pitch, stole second, and then scored when J.T. Whitten (Waterville, ME) singled to left field.
In the top of the 6th Josh Gaudette (Waterville, ME) singled to left field. Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) reached first base on an error, and Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME) batted in the 2nd run of the game for the Eagles making it 2-0.
Foster homered in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 3-0. Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) walked and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid, ME) singled, and got all the way to third base on a error allowing Smith to score making it 4-0.
Defensively the Eagles had a strong game with Whitten, Gendreau, and Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME) all turning double plays.
Brandon Reilly (Pemaquid, ME) earned the win on the mound, going 4 innings, allowing 2 hits, and striking out 1. Pat McEwen (Brewer, ME) pitched 2 strong innings, striking out 2 batters, and Smith pitched an inning of relief striking out 1.
Game 2:
Multiple runs in both the 3rd and 6th innings, and 5 errors by the Pilgrims fielders were the difference in game two.
Husson jumped ahead early again scoring 1 run in the first inning, 5 runs in the 3rd, and 4 runs in the top of the 6th.
Shawn Smith, Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME), Brandon Gendreau, and Andrew Curran (Hampstead, NH) all had doubles in the last game of the doubleheader. J.T. Whitten, Benjamin McLain, and Cody McInnis each had 2 RBIs, while Bishop and Gendreau added the other two for the Eagles.
Yet again the Eagle's fielding was on point, seeing Whitten, Gendreau and McInnis all turn double plays.
Tim Nason (Bucksport, ME) pitched 4 innings in the win for Husson, striking out 2 batters.
With these wins the Eagles conclude the 2013 regular season at 23-17 overall and 18-6 in the North Atlantic Conference.
