Box Score 2 Henniker, NH – Husson baseball falls to New England College in game one of the doubleheader 3-2; find their stride in game two 12-3.
Game 1:
New England College put two runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles answered back in the top of the 4th when Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) singled to right field, Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) singled to third base, and Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME) flied out to centerfield scoring Gendreau.
In the top of the 5th Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME) reached first base on an error by the second baseman, advancing to second on a ground out by Zachary Carter. Pat Thibodeau (Caribou, ME) singled up to left field, scoring Carter to tie it up 2-2.
The Pilgrims struck again in the bottom of the 6th for the game winning run on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.
Thibodeau earned the loss for the Eagles going 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 1.
Game 2:
The Eagle's bats were on fire in game two when they defeated the Pilgrims 12-3.
Husson scored 6 runs in the top of the 1st inning, Shawn Smith hit a 3-run homerun, Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid, ME) doubled to right field batting in 2 runs, and Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME) singled to score McLain for the 6th run of the inning.
Both the Pilgrims and Eagles scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Husson's J.T. Whitten (Waterville, ME) doubled to score Smith who walked and then stole second. Whitten scored on an error and Kyle Bishop both scored on errors to make it 9-3 Eagles.
Adding 2 runs in the 4th inning on a homerun by junior Josh Gaudette (Waterville, ME) and 1 in the top of the 7th to ensure the victory the Eagles are now 21-17 overall on the season and 16-6 in the North Atlantic Conference.
Dennis O'Neil (Mount Desert, ME) earned the win on the mound for the Eagles going 6 innings just giving up 1 earned run.
They will play another doubleheader with NEC tomorrow starting at 12:00 PM.
