Avon Park, FL - Husson baseball defeated Keene State College in 9 innings Thursday afternoon 4-2. The Eagles scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st inning and 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, never relinquishing the lead.
Dennis O'Neil (Mount Desert, ME) earned the win for the Eagles pitching 8 innings, striking out 4 batters while Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) earned the save going 1 inning, striking out 2 batters.
Smith not only assisted on the mound but in the batters box going 3-4 on the day, including one double and driving in 2 runs for the Eagles.
Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME) had the other double on the afternoon for Husson, scoring one run on the day, and drawing a walk. Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME) had 2 RBI, on two hits.
Defensively the Eagles saw 3 double plays turned each by Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) and Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid, ME), and 2 double plays turned by Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME).
Daniel Osorio got the loss for Keene State, giving up 3 runs and 4 walks in 2 innings. Greg Bates went 2-4 on the afternoon, including a double. Brett Dootson also went 2-4, adding a double and an RBI.
The Eagles are now 2-3 overall this season, and will play a double header against St. Norbert College of De Pere, Wisconsin, tomorrow Friday, March 15th at 1:30 PM & 3:30 PM in their final games of the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational.
