Eagles Start 2013 Season with a Win and a Loss

Lakeland, FL – Husson baseball opened up their 2013 season Monday at the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational where they faced Roger Williams University for a double header, splitting the days series 1-1.

Game 1 Husson 8 - Roger Williams 0:

Husson scored 2 runs in the Top of the 1st, and continued the scoring pace with 4 runs in the top of the 4th, and 1 run in each the 5th and 6th inning. Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME), Pat Thibodeau (Caribou, ME), Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME), Brandon Campbell (South Paris, ME), Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid,ME), and Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME) had the RBI's for the Eagles.  Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) had 2 doubles, Thibodeau and McLain each had one double on the day. Foster had the only stolen base of the day for the Eagles.

Defensively for Husson Gendreau, Kyle McLain (Orrington, ME), B. McLain, and McInnis turned double plays.

Pat McEwen (Brewer, ME) pitched the shutout for the Eagles going all 7 innings, facing 22 batters, giving up 3 hits, and striking out 4 batters. McEwen threw 19 pitches, 12 strikes.

Winter, Lund, and Chamberlain pitched for Roger Williams.

Game 2 Roger Williams 7 - Husson 4:

The Eagles held a 4-2 lead going into the 7th inning but could not hold onto the lead. Roger Williams came back to score 2 runs in the top of the 7th and 3 runs in the top of the 9th.

Husson saw extra base hits from Thibodeau, Smith, and B. McLain who had all doubles. Gendreau, Smith, Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME), and B. McLain batted in the runs for the Eagles. Smith and Josh Gaudette(Waterville, ME) had stolen bases, while B. McLain, McInnis, and Zachary Yates (Newport, RI) turned double plays defensively.

For Roger Williams, Nelson and Timothy had doubles, Swenson, Oppenhimer, Jefferies, Campo, and Timothy had the RBI's. Nelson and Jefferies had stolen bases. Anderson, Orosz, and Pogmore pitched for the Hawks.

Dan Whitney (Bethel, ME) pitched 4.1 innings for the Eagles facing 15 batters, giving up 2 hits with one strikeout. Yates faced 12 batters in 2 innings, giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, with one strike out. Thibodeau came in for 1.2 innnings, facing 8 batters.  Dennis O'Neil (Mount Desert, ME) faced 7 batters in one inning.

The Eagles are 1-1 after their first day of play, they will play Rensselaer tomorrow at 11:00 AM in day two of the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational.
