Box Score Lyndonville, VT – Husson men's basketball capped of the 2012-2013 regular season with a road win against conference opponent Lyndon State, 81-76. With this win the Eagles clinch the #2 seed in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament and will host a playoff game.
Lyndon took the lead early 3-7 and the teams exchanged the lead back and forth early in the 1st half. Husson led 49-37 at the half after scoring 12 unanswered points.
The Hornets were able to close the lead and eventually took a brief lead with 9:20 remaining in the second half when David Johnson (Washington, DC) nailed back to back jump shots putting Lyndon up 62-61.
The Eagles established a lead, but the Hornets would not stop fighting, slowing closing any gap that was created. Husson was finally able to stifle the offensive efforts of Lyndon State when Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) and Eric Modica (Kittery, ME) each brought down two defensive rebounds and sank both of their free throws.
Marc Zaharchuk and Modica both ended the game with 14 points each. Modica added 8 rebounds while Zaharchuk had 7 boards. Donte Cottonham (Silver Spring, MD) went a perfect 4-4 from the 3-point arc for a total of 12 points in 10 minutes. Corey Wood (Laurel, MD) went a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line, and 3-4 from the field for a total of 10 points.
With this win the Eagles improve to 17-8 overall, 14-4 NAC clinching the #2 seed in the NAC Championship bracket. They will host Johnson State College (9-16 overall, 7-11 NAC) which earned the seventh seed, in quarterfinal action Tuesday. Lyndon State will travel to Castleton State College also on Tuesday. Game times have not yet been set.
