Box Score Johnson, VT - Husson University rolled past Johnson State Friday night 65-46 for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory. Husson advances to 8-15, 8-9 in the NAC while the Badgers slide to 5-19 on the season and 2-15 in conference play.
For the Eagles, four players scored in double figures. Rebecca Young (Concord, VT), Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) and Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) all contributed 13 points towards Husson's win. Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) tallied 10 points on the night. In a double-double effort, Young grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Chrissy Larrabee (Brooks, ME) also grabbed 11 rebounds, and Kelli Murray (Shawmut, ME) recorded eight.
The Badgers' Brittany Robertson (Burlington, VT)came off the bench to lead the team earning a game-high 16-points while freshman teammateDeanna Brandstetter (Vernon, VT)supplied nine points and four boards. Sophomore Ashley Jones (Jeffersonville, VT) paced the Badgers on the glass with seven boards.
The Badgers set the game in motion after Brandstetter banked a two pointer with a long 18:45 left to play. Husson answered within the minute with a three point jumper by McIntyre followed by a fast basket from Johnson's Brandstetter. For the next 11 minutes, the pace slowed down for both teams as they settled into their defensive rhythms. With just 4 minutes to go in the opening stanza, the teams were within just one point of each other at 16-15, Husson's advantage. Over the next three minutes the visitors would go on a 7-0 run to bring the score to 23-15 as the teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.
The Eagles picked up their pace from the outset and would see their biggest lead of the game in the second half leaving the Badgers trailing by as much as 20 points. A lay-up from Jenessa Swainbank(Enosburg, VT) with 8:26 left in the half marked a small comeback from the Badgers, leaving them just 10 points shy of the Eagles lead. Four minutes later, Husson led 59-39 following a three point jumper from McIntyre. The buzzer sounded with a final tally of 65-46 for an Eagle's victory.
The Badgers and the Eagles will both return to action tomorrow for the final games of the regular season. Husson will travel to Lyndon State while Johnson State will face Maine Maritime at 3:00pm.
