Box Score Bangor, ME - Husson women's basketball fell to conference opponent UMaine-Farmington Tuesday night at Newman Gymnasium, 64-58.
Both teams managed to hang with each other until 9 minutes remaining in the 1st half when UMF slowly built a lead and went into the half up 34-22.
Husson fought back and closed the lead to 58-54 after a huge 3-pointer by Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) and a free throw by Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) with 1 minute and 34 seconds remaining in the game. Any ground the Eagles made on the deficit the Beavers countered and with time winding down Husson forced UMF to close out the game shooting free throws. The Beavers scored their final three points at the line, and finished the game victorious 64-58.
The Eagles did outscore the Beavers in the 2nd half and had more rebounds, steals, blocks and assists on the night. Rebecca Young (Concord, VT) was the leading scorer for Husson with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 1 steal in 26 minutes of play. Kelli Murray, (Shawmut, ME) who before the game was honored as the lone senior for Senior Day 2013, scored 14 points with 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 40 minutes of play.
Ayla Allen scored 16 points for the Beavers with 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in 16 minutes of play. Rachel Clement added 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in 28 minutes of play.
Husson falls to 7-15 overall this season and 7-9 in the North Atlantic Conference, while UMaine- Farmington improves to 10-3 overall, and 10-7 in the NAC.
The Eagles will end their regular season on the road versus Johnson State this Friday night at 7:30 PM and at Lyndon State Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM. The Beavers will host Thomas College Saturday at 3:00PM to end their regular season.
