McIntyre's Last Second 3-Pointer Lifts Eagles Past Monks

Standish, ME – The Husson University women's basketball (1-1) team defeated non-conference opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine (2-1) 69-68, on a last second 3-point shot from Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME).

"I am so happy for Victoria, she was struggling a bit but had a few big plays, and nailed the game winning shot," said Head Coach Kissy Walker.

McIntyre ended the night with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 18-7 lead but saw the Monks close the lead down to 31-25 heading into halftime.

Saint Joseph's came out fast in the second half tying it up and eventually taking a 32-31 lead.

The two teams exchanged the lead back and forth until the final seconds when Chandler Guerette (Presque Isle, ME) passed to McIntyre for the game winning 3-pointer, handing the Monks their first loss of the season.

Guerrette paced the offense for the Eagles scoring a team high 20 points, bringing down 3 rebounds, and adding 3 assists.

Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) had the second highest point total for the Eagles with 13.

"It was a great team effort! For such a young team it was a great situation to be in," added Walker.

Morgan Cahill led the Monks with 22 points, and 5 rebounds. While teammate Lindsay Moore grabbed a double double with 15 points and 10 assists

Next up for the Eagles will be their 2013-2014 home and conference opener against the Thomas Terriers on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:30 PM.
