Box Score Bangor, ME - Husson field hockey let up a goal to Thomas in the 11th minute, but came back to win their NAC quarterfinal 2-1. Michelle Greene caged the first goal for the Terriers at 10:30, but Sabrina Vaillancourt added goals of her own for Husson in the 31st and 36th minutes to give the Eagles the 2-1 victory and advance in the NAC Tournament.
Greene's goal gave Thomas momentum as they had numerous chances in front of the net and she put it in the back of the cage just past Husson goalie Kaitlin Dolloff.
Almost twenty minutes later Vaillancourt put the first tally on the board for the Eagles as the Eagles' Britt Mellor put a shot on net after a penalty corner which Thomas keeper Sofia Sourgiadakis made a nice save on. Sourgiadakis however, couldn't locate the bounding ball underneath her and Vaillancourt collected it and put it in the cage.
Just moments after the Husson goal, Thomas put a good surge on net and looked to have a sure goal. Miranda Tinsman put a shot on goal that got past Dolloff but not Annika Durrell. Durrell dove to her right and just managed to get her stick to the ball bound for the cage keeping the game tied at 1-1.
A similar play to Eagles' first goal happened in the opening minute of the second half, as it was Vaillancourt yet again moving toward the net, putting a shot on Sourgiadakis. Sofia made yet another save, but was unable to keep the ball away from Vaillancourt who tucked away her second and game winning goal.
Sabrina led all players in shots with 11 and put four of them on net, caging the two goals. Britt Mellor put in another impressive offensively with several solid offensive chances going five-for-five on shots on goal.
The Eagles outshot Thomas 26-14 and earned the advantage in penalty corners as well, 17-12. Sougiadakis make 13 saves in the loss while Dolloff made five in the win.
"We played a strong confident second half," said head coach Jen Johnstone. "That was the difference. After Thomas scored we made adjustments and proved very favorable."
