Field Hockey

Husson Falls to #3 Bowdoin

Box Score

Brunswick, ME – The Husson field hockey team traveled to third-ranked Bowdoin on Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Eagles dropped a 6-0 result and stand at 7-4 (4-0 North Atlantic Conference), while Bowdoin improves to 8-1.

Katie Riley drew a pair of Husson defenders off the left post and centered a reverse stick pass towards the Eagles' net, as Rachel Kennedy cut in and one-timed it for Bowdoin's first goal of the game with 7:01 off the clock. Riley had a hand in Bowdoin's next goal as she crossed another pass from the left side, which Emily Simonton redirected before Adrienne O'Donnell would bury it in the net. With six minutes remaining in the half Bowdoin took the 3-0 lead as Olivia King took a hard shot from the top of the circle. Kennedy and Lauren Schroeder each got a piece of the ball as it passed to ensure no quick sticks from Husson would deflect it away. Annika Durrell (Livermore, ME) denied Bowdoin of two goals, one in each half, with defensive saves for the Eagles.

The Polar Bears waited less than five minutes into the second half before tallying their fourth goal of the game. Coming off a penalty corner, Colleen Finnerty controlled the insert at the top of the circle and dished a pass right towards O'Donnell whose hard sweep traveled through traffic into the cage. Riley netted a goal of her own out of a scramble in front of the Eagles' net fifteen minutes into the half.

Husson looked to crack Bowdoin's defense with its first corner at 63:15. The Eagles were awarded four consecutive penalty corners, mustering a shot on cage each time, but were unable to break through. Taylor Lovley (Newport, ME) led the Eagles' offensive effort with three shots, all of which were on goal. Meaghan Dwan recorded a defensive save during the flurry of Husson shots. Liz Znamierowski wrapped up Bowdoin's scoring as she one-touched a crossing pass from Pam Herter from the end line.

Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, RI) recorded 31 saves in net for Husson, with Bowdoin outshooting the Eagles 48-7 overall. Hannah Gartner had five stops for Bowdoin.

Both teams play on Saturday, October 12, with Husson traveling to Lasell for a 1:00 PM game and Bowdoin hosting Hamilton at 11:00 AM.
