Volleyball Splits In New Hampshire

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

New London, NH -  Husson Volleyball came into Saturday's doubleheader having lost its last five matches, although all of those losses had come against tough out-of-conference opponents.

The first match of the day would come against the North Atlantic Conference foe Colby-Sawyer College Chargers, who would run the Eagles' losing streak to six with a straight set victory (25-6, 25-12, 25-10).

Husson was finally able to right the ship in the second match against out-of-conference opponent New Hampshire Technical Institute, sweeping the Lynx in three games (25-22, 25-14, 25-13).

In the first contest with defending NAC champion Colby-Sawyer, Husson couldn't withstand an astronomical offensive showing by the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer hit for an incredible .455 hitting percentage as a team in the three games, putting away 43 kills on 77 attacks with eight hitting errors.

The Chargers were led by Emilee McBride with 11 kills, while Stephanie Vecchio added 10 and Courtney O'Hara had eight.  Laura Smolinski ran a great offense, distributing 41 assists while Ally Le-Bruno picked up 20 digs in the victory.

Husson was led by Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, ME) with five kills in the match to go along with five digs, while Casey Lopes (New Bedford, MA) handed out nine assists.

"Colby-Sawyer is a strong team with a lot of experience," Husson coach Jodie Fairbank said after the match.  "It was a learning experience for the team, being our first conference game."

With the split, Husson moves to 8-13 (0-1 NAC) on the year while Colby-Sawyer improved to 13-6 (2-0 NAC) and NHTI went to 7-11.

Husson's next match will be back at home at the Newman Gymnasium on Wednesday night, when the Eagles host the St. Joseph's College Monks at 7 p.m.
