Box Score Machias, ME - The Husson University women's volleyball squad was looking to sweep the season series with out-of-conference foe University of Maine at Machias Clippers Tuesday evening, but were not able to do so.
Machias avenged a loss from back on September 4 by taking a tough four-set victory over the Eagles (25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18).
"It's a good thing today wasn't a conference game," Husson coach Jodie Fairbank said after the match. "We just couldn't get it together."
Heather Leonard paced the Machias attack with nine kills, while Hailey Lacey added four of her own. Kyrstyn Ransom passed out 16 assists for the winners, and she also tallied five service aces and 12 digs.
Husson was led by Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) with 10 kills on 20 attacks. Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, ME) had seven kills and a match-high 20 digs for the Eagles, to go along with four blocks.
Casey Lopes (New Bedford, MA) dished out 23 assists for Husson, while libero Kara Graham (East Machias, ME) had 16 digs.
"Time to regroup for this weekend for our last two home games and our last conference games of the regular season," said Fairbank.
The Eagles now have just two regular season contests left on their schedule, and can clinch a home match in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs with two victories. Husson is hosting an NAC quad-match on Saturday, October 26, at the Newman Gymnasium. The full schedule for Saturday is as follows:
