Husson Volleyball Bested By Colby

Box Score

Waterville, ME -  The Husson Eagles women's volleyball team came into Wednesday night's match with the Colby College Mules looking to get back on the right track after a four-match losing stretch against some very tough out-of-conference competition.

Try as they might, the Eagles were not able to overcome a balanced Colby attack as the Mules took the match in straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-20).

Four Colby players tallied at least six kills on the night, with Natalie Roy leading the charge with 14.  Kim Donaldson added eight kills, while Sarah Arvidson and Elizabeth Noyes chipped in with seven and six respectively.

Kate Pleasants and Ellie Linden split the setting duties effectively for the Mules, with Pleasants handing out 20 assists and Linden distributing 13 of her own.

Husson was led in the match by Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) with four kills and eight digs, while Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, ME) added three kills and 10 digs to go along with three blocks.  Kristen Atwood (Cumberland, ME) and Emma Plouffe (Frankfort, NY) had three kills apiece for Husson.

Casey Lopes (New Bedford, MA) came close to posting another double-double for the Eagles, passing out 15 assists and picking up nine digs.

"Our girls played really well," Husson coach Jodie Fairbank said after the match.  "They played with aggressiveness and intensity, which is obviously the direction I want them heading.  I feel good about their play tonight, and their progression overall."

Colby moves to 5-6 on the season with the victory, while Husson slides to 7-12.

Husson will head back out on the road this weekend, traveling to New London, New Hampshire for their first North Atlantic Conference match of the season at Colby-Sawyer College.  The Eagles will play Colby-Sawyer at 1 o'clock Saturday, followed by a match with out-of-conference opponent New Hampshire Technical Institute at 3 p.m.
