Volleyball Nets Two Conference Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lyndonville, VT -  The Husson Eagles women's volleyball team came into Saturday's North Atlantic Conference twin bill searching for their first conference victory of the 2013 season.  They were also looking to snap a three-match losing skid.

The day would go as well as it possibly could have for the Eagles, as they found not one, but two wins by defeating the Johnson State College Badgers and the Lyndon State College Hornets.

In the first match of the day, Husson beat Johnson State in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-6).

In the meeting with Lyndon State, the Eagles took a tough four-set victory (25-20, 26-24, 18-25, 25-21).

Against Johnson, Lisa Tapley (Bucksport, ME) had seven kills for the Eagles while Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, RI) added five to go along with three service aces.

Casey Lopes (New Bedford, MA) dished out 18 assists for Husson, and she also posted 10 digs.

Against Lyndon, Husson's middle hitters paved the way to their second victory of the day.  Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, ME) tallied 13 kills on 28 attacks, while deHertogh put away six of her own on 14 attempts.  Chapman also had 12 digs.

Caela Fenderson (Charlotte, ME) added six kills and 21 digs for the for the Eagles, and Autumn Wilber (Tuftonboro, NH) had five kills to go along with 20 digs.  Shannon Tallan (Norfolk, CT) posted three kills for the winners.

Lopes passed around another 33 assists for Husson, while Kara Graham (East Machias, ME) had 15 digs.

"It was nice to get some wins, especially since they were in conference," Husson coach Jodie Fairbank said after the match.  "We were able to use some players that don't always get time, and Caela, Shannon, and Lisa all stepped up to the challenge and played well."

With the two wins, Husson improves to 10-16 overall (2-2 NAC) for the season.  Johnson falls to 0-19 (0-5 NAC) and Lyndon slips to 8-10 (2-3 NAC).

Husson now has just three matches remaining on its regular season schedule.  The Eagles will play at U-Maine Machias on Tuesday night at 6:30, and will round out the season by hosting an NAC quad-match next Saturday, October 26.  Husson will play Green Mountain College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Castleton State at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale.
