Jones Nets Hat Trick; Eagles Honor Seniors

Box Score

Bangor, ME – Husson women's soccer grabbed a non-conference win Wednesday night at Boucher Field with their 6-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

The Eagles improve to 6-8-1 on the season, while the Owls fall to 4-9-1.

Pregame ceremonies honored the five seniors on the team; Becca Jones (Newmarket, NH), Marcy Francoeur (Danville, NH), Whitney Cross (Belfast, ME), Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME), and Courtney Hill (Calais, ME).

Jones started off the night filled with celebration when she netted a beautifully set up pass from Hill. Less than 10 minutes later Jones played a perfectly placed ball from MJ Boyce (Bangor, ME) to snag her 2nd goal of the game.

Taking it from deep in Husson territory Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) hustled down the right sideline, beating every Owl defender to score Husson's third goal of the game unassisted.

The Eagles rode their 3-0 lead into the halftime, and added 3 more in the second half.

This time it was Bicknell setting up Jones for her third goal of the game 6th of the season to earn the hat trick in the 46th minute.

Fellow senior Cross pocketed her third goal of the season when she crossed a fast travelling ball past the hands of Owl keeper Amanda Larrabee.

Desir'ee Hamler (Franklin, NJ) added the final goal of the game to seal the shutout victory for the Eagles, 6-0.

"Our five seniors shone tonight, and it was fun to see our team show up to play for them. We stuck to our game plan and put together a solid, intense performance," said Head Coach Carly Gettler, "We need to play like this moving forward into the next few crucial upcoming games."

Larrabee was bombarded in goal, but stopped 13 shots. Husson's Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) and Jaclyn MacDonald (Old Orchard Beach, ME) shared time in net stopping all 3 shots they faced.

The Eagles will be on the road for the remainder of their 2013 regular season, as they first travel to NAC rival Thomas College this Saturday, October 19th for a 1:00 PM match time.
