Mariners Sink Eagles; Despite Big First Half Comeback

Bangor, ME - Husson University Women's Basketball fell to Maine Maritime Academy Friday night at Newman Gymnasium, 55-36.

The Mariners set the tempo for the game early on with their aggressive style and full court press which successfully held the Eagles scoreless for the first 7 minutes taking a 13-0 lead. Chrissy Larrabee (Brooks, ME) got the Eagles started when she was able to capitalize on a three-point play, and Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) sunk two 3-pointers in a row to close the lead to 5 points, with 15 unanswered points. The game hung at 23-20 going into the half in favor of the Mariners.

In the second half the Eagles momentum was halted and they were unable to put together any scoring runs. The game ended with the Mariners coming out victorious, 55-36.

Johnson was the high scoring Eagle with 16 points off the bench, 4 steals and 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. Next for Husson was Larrabee with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

Rebehka Campbell (Corinth, ME) scored a game high 10 points for MMA, with 2 blocks, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Courtney DuFour (Augusta, ME) added 9 points 2 rebounds, and 2 assists for the Mariners.

Both teams are now 6-5 in the North Atlantic Conference; Husson falls to 6-10 on the season. The Eagles will be on the road next to they visit their Vermont NAC opponents, Green Mountain College (Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 PM) and Castleton State College (Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3:00 PM).
